 Autism Awareness Night Returns

to the Tulsa State Fair!

Tulsa State Fair Autism Awareness Night - Monday October 2nd

The Tulsa State Fair will host its annual Autism Awareness Night on Monday, October 2nd. Families affected by autism can enjoy FREE gate entrance from 5-6pm when they enter through the Midway East Entrance Only. (This is off of 21st Street.)

Once families enter through the gate, kids with autism can stop by the Sheriff's table and get an ID wristband. (See map)

There is handicap parking right near Gate 12, where our families enter, as well as some paid parking options. Free shuttle service is available, however it does not drop off near Gate 12.

View the website link for complete details on parking options here.

Autism Center of Tulsa is now A-OK Autism/Autism Friendly Locations!

We have been blessed to serve the Tulsa and surrounding communities since 2005. We have been gaining momentum nationally with our efforts in safety and community inclusion and are excited to share with others what we started right here in Tulsa. As part of our national expansion, we have updated our website, and you can now find us at aokautism.com.

A-OK Autism will focus exclusively on safety identification and community inclusion. This will allow us to join forces with the statewide autism family support group Autism Oklahoma. We have been long-time collaborators with this group and we are pleased to announce that local families will be offered support through their new Autism Tulsa group. In order for the entire state to have consistency on how they find an Autism Oklahoma Support Group, we have given them our autismtulsa.org domain name.

Other groups include:

AutismBlanchard.org

AutismCanadianValley.org

AutismEdmond.org

AutismLatino.org

AutismMuskogee.org

AutismNorman.org

AutismOKC.org

AutismStillwater.org

AutismShawnee.org

AutismWritersGroup.org

AutismGuthrie.org

Autism Tulsa meets every 2nd Monday (October-May) from 6:30-8:00pm at the Park Plaza Church of Christ in Tulsa.

Team Robert!

And a very special thank you to Andolini's Pizzeria for donating many delicious pizzas that fed our gathered families! They were very much appreciated and quickly devoured!

The Tulsa Drillers won their game and the fireworks were not to be missed! The special edition jerseys were auctioned off and the team jersey signed by all the players was raffled off to one lucky attendee.

Thanks so much to the Tulsa Drillers for their support and for helping make our evening so special.

Proceeds from this walk go toward helping the Autism Center of Tulsa reach its fundraising goal for the year. Donations will be accepted through our website until the end of July. If you'd like to make a donation, click below.

Lobster Fest is Coming!

Mark your calendars! The Tulsa Sunrise Rotary Club Foundation will host the sixth annual Maine Lobster Fest and Charity Auction on Saturday, August 26th, at the Southern Hills Marriott. Proceeds from this event will benefit the Autism Center of Tulsa.

Silent Auction Baskets Needed!

The wonderful folks at the Tulsa Sunrise Rotary Foundation give a portion of the proceeds from their annual Lobster Fest and Charity Auction to the Autism Center of Tulsa. This allows us to keep supporting the families in our community.

This year, families and supporters are encouraged to create an auction basket to be included in the silent auction. Get together with your friends, encourage your co-workers, challenge your business to participate, and then come up with a great themed basket to donate to the auction!

Here are a few ideas to get those creative juices flowing:

Golf Themed Basket

Cupcake Themed Basket

      Barbecue Themed Basket

 Cocktail Themed Basket

Have fun with it! And see you at Lobster Fest!

Contact the Event Chairman Eric Johnson with any questions at 918-928-7859 or visit the event website: sunriselobsterfest.com

Let Us Play Table Matchmaker!

Thinking about going to Lobster Fest, but don't have enough people in your party? Want to buy a table with other families? Contact us and we'll help pair you up to fill your table!

Simply email Michelle at michelle@autismtulsa.org with the details of your party and she'll help you fill your table.

Corporate Sponsorships Needed!

Event sponsors and Table sponsors are still needed.

Sponsor a table and bring your company out for a fun evening. Or purchase a table and donate it to families with children with autism and let them enjoy a grand night out. Parents often can't afford to go out, and the ones who have received sponsored dinners have been so grateful!

AOK Walk for Autism- New Details, New Dates

Our biggest, funnest family event of the year will go on as scheduled, with a few minor adjustments on its brand new date! Our 11th Annual A-OK Walk for Autism and Autism Awareness Night with the Tulsa Drillers will take place on Saturday, June 10, 2017

One of the changes to our event will be the start of the walk. We will now begin and end the walk at the Drillers' Stadium.

Another change will be additional packet pick up days right before the walk. New Team Packet Pick Up will be at the Autism Center of Tulsa offices in Suite 410 of the William Medical Building Thursday and Friday, June 8-9, 2017, from 10am-1pm.

Everything else will stay the same. Walk registration will open at 3:30pm the day of the walk at Drillers' Stadium. Walk teams will meet and line up around 5:15pm. The walk will loop around and onto ONEOK Field. Individuals with autism will receive a medal. All registered participants will be admitted into the stadium to attend the Tulsa Drillers game. (You will receive your game tickets in your walk packets.) All registered children will receive wristbands for the inflatables inside the park. A child with autism will throw out the first pitch of the game. (If your team raises over $1000, it could be YOUR Team Hero throwing the pitch!) Our kids will be celebrated throughout the evening. And don't forget the players' jersey auction! The evening will conclude with an unforgettable fireworks display.

This is always a really fun evening! We hope you'll join us!

Tulsa Zoo Opens New Family Den

With Quiet Space for Autism Families

Tulsa Zoo Opens Quiet Space for Autism Families!

This week, the Tulsa Zoo opened the new St. John Family Den, a nursing and quiet space, where families with children of autism can take a break while visiting the zoo and make their experience even more enjoyable.

"We had received requests from guests," says Ellen Averill, Director of Marketing of the Tulsa Zoo when asked what inspired this project. "The average zoo stay is three hours," says Averill. "This new space makes our guests' visits as comfortable as possible."

The 900 square-foot climate controlled space is located right next to the Amazon Rainforest exhibit (previously the Amazon Outpost gift shop) and hosts quite a few amenities. There is a private room for nursing mothers, complete with comfy chairs and conveniently located plug-ins for those who need to pump, a quiet room for families affected by autism or sensory processing disorders with wall puzzles and soft pillows, a restroom with an adult changing table and much more.

The Tulsa Zoo received input on the design aspects from the Autism Center of Tulsa, La Leche League of Tulsa, and from families. "We are grateful to the families who shared their input." This project wouldn't have been possible without the generous donation from St. John.

This fantastic new space is open during regular zoo hours. Come check it out next time you're at the zoo! Spring break is great time to visit!

AOK Walk for Autism - Corporate Sponsors, We Need You!

Our AOK Walk for Autism fundraising campaign is under way and we are looking for some fantastic sponsors to help make this event successful. Do you own a business? If so, we invite you to consider becoming a corporate sponsor!

Do you work for a business that is looking for ways to give back to the community? Encourage your employer to become a corporate sponsor! Share your family's story and tell them why ACT is important to you.

Our event will be promoted through various Tulsa area media outlets and we have a limited number of corporate tables available. These tables will be available at ONEOK Field during the game to an expected sold-out crowd of at least 7,500. Sponsorships will help our campaign to spread awareness, understanding, and acceptance to the 1 in 68 living with autism. It will help provide opportunities for our families to prevent isolation and integrate into the community where they can practice the skills learned at school and in therapy in order to improve their quality of life and independence.

For more information, View our Corporate Sponsorship Packet.

Deadline for participation is April 7, 2017.
